This summer the
Federation - Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut, based in Southbury,
took a leading role by bringing three key leaders from the Middle East to the
USA. One key goal was for these heroic leaders to share their successful model
for peaceful coexistence, based on social and economic development and
introduce the concept of a two state solution based on a mutual beneficial
relationship.
The historic visit
included the Governor of Jenin, Qaddoura M. Qaddoura, the Mayor of Gilboa in
Northern Israel Danny Attar and his Arab Israeli Deputy, Ead Saleem. It was the
first visit to the United States by the Palestinian Governor. The Federations hope
was that their mutually beneficial efforts could hold lasting benefit for the
Jewish State of Israel and the hope for a future Palestinian State and further
advanced stability in the region
Last week, on October 23rd a ceremony took place at the
border between Jenin and the Gilboa, where the people of Gilboa gifted warm
blankets to those less fortunate, living in Jenin. The following day a
leadership delegation from the Federation was hosted in Jenin by the
Palestinian Governor where they visited various .social welfare programs which
care for disabled children. The delegation had the privilege of handing out
some of the 2000 blankets to children in need.
